I recently joined the ClinOne team in an effort to ultimately help patients live better lives. It is important for me to connect, inform, and empower patients in all ways possible so they can have the best health outcomes.
I started my clinical experience as a Combat Medic in the Army Reserves while in college to become a Registered Nurse. After college, I received a commission as an army officer and became a hospital administrator and Company Commander. I completed one combat tour in Afghanistan during my time in the Army Reserves.
My RN career was in the emergency department in the Philadelphia area. As an emergency department nurse, I was exposed to many types of patients, and on any given day, I would treat patients for things as minor as a toe injury up to fatal shootings and managing mass casualty events. Every day was something new and challenging for me, which is why I loved being an emergency department nurse. I saw it all in the urban hospitals of Philadelphia. Patients would often come into the emergency department with new issues they had not experienced before. They faced disease symptoms that were new to them and they had to mentally prepare how their lives would change with a diagnosis. Treating patients in this setting was not just about their physical needs but how to address their mental and emotional health needs as well. The physical and mental health treatments went side by side.
Also, these patients were experiencing something new and often very scary to them. They had to work with their doctors on treatment options and become educated quickly on their new disease state. A large portion of my time was spent on patient education and awareness. One thing that I learned during my clinical time was that patients lacked a connection to treatments that could ultimately help them.  I always referred them to their physician to learn about all options to treat their disease. I believe that it is important for physicians to have knowledge about what could be available so they can inform their patients.  As I think about it now, I wish my patients could have connected with clinical trials to help treat their new disease state. Unfortunately, I did not have the knowledge back then that I have now.
A few months ago, I was looking for a new career path, one that I could feel proud of to help patients become empowered. ClinOne was the change that I needed. The ClinOne platform connects physicians with clinical trials in their immediate area and allows them to become informed about what trials are available. The ClinOne platform also provides patients with a personalized experience to keep them engaged as they participate in their trials. It also supports family members as well.
Having clinical experience as an RN in the emergency department I see the value of the ClinOne platform – to help patients connect with their physician, provide informative clinical information, and empower patients to have the best outcome that they can have.
